We are a wonderful class of 14 children in a mixed group of Year 5 and Year 6. Here children develop their independence, resilience and confidence as learners and encounter exciting topics as part of our curriculum. We aim to create a fun and engaging classroom environment where we celebrate everyone’s values and opinions; children relish the challenges that come with being at the upper end of key stage 2.

In class we use rich class texts or short videos to inspire our writing and extend our reading. This year we have read Kensuke’s Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo, learnt the poem Still I Rise by Maya Angelou and watched ‘One Small Step’, a short, animated film by Taiko Studios.

We have an engaging curriculum which currently includes fortnightly Forest Friday sessions.  Here the children are able to immerse themselves in nature, taking part in activities and challenges set in our dedicated forest area. Children learn skills such as fire lighting, exploring, building, weaving, planting, whittling, cooking and crafting all using naturally occurring items.

Year 6 Residential Trip

Children in Year 6 are looking forward to our annual residential trip to Red Ridge in Wales. This is a welcome reward for all their hard work throughout the year and in the run up to SATs. Children experience rock climbing, abseiling, zip lining, caving (man-made and real), archery as well and taking part in many team building exercises.
